Apparently, the vast majority of my students have ten fingers. That's strange because I always grew up with only eight!
As can be seen in the above picture, a normal pair of human hands has 8 fingers. A large number of my students were not aware of the word 'thumb' in English.
A popular sentence they liked to write was: "I have ten fingers."
After introducing their thumbs to them with some laughter, they now write: "I have eight fingers and two thumbs."
How is your A-Z challenge doing after the first week?

Great point. The thumbs are very important and do not get the attention that they deserve. Fingers wouldn't be so awesome without the help of the thumbs. They are truly our hands unsung hero's. Thumbs everywhere owe you a debt of gratitude for this overdue exposure to their plight. Bravo!

I always thought a thumb was a finger. We live and learn and I really like what you are doing here.
Our poor ignored thumbs, always overlooked in favour of their finger cousins! Very amusing!
Great post. :)
- A fellow blogger from A to Z!
Thumbs for spacebar and fingers for typing. Cool observation.
Very interactive approach! So far I'm doing okay with my A-Z - this week is the tough one though because I'm going day by day from now on! Best - Joe
