The Beauty of Nature Project - May 2017

At Horne Learning Services, we love to engage our students' creative side by holding projects each year. The first project of 2017 was titled "The Beauty of Nature" and we received 132 entries. We divided the project into three age groups:

Age 6-9
Age 10-12
Age 13-17

All projects were judged on the following five criteria, each area carrying 20% marks:

- effort
- creativity
- appearance
- explore the topic
- writing

Save the Trees Project Winners

From 11th - 23rd April, 2016, Horne Learning Services hosted the 'Save the Trees' project. We received many excellent pieces of work and selected 16 winners in two categories. Ten winners including trophies for the top 3 were awarded to the Age 10+ category while 6 winners including plaques for the top 3 were likewise awarded to the Age 6-9 category.

Completed projects were marked based on 4 characteristics:

1. Explored the topic
2. Attractive
3. Unique
4. Grammar

AGE 10+ CATEGORY

WINNER - SAVE THE TREES PROJECT: OVIYA







Oviya's beautiful and unique project was made using a real tree branch with second-hand sponge, sequins and other materials, explained along with other meaningful information in her writing

2ND PLACE: ALYA

Alya's project comprised three parts; a poster, booklet and display. It was creatively done and was worthy of the top 3 finish








3RD PLACE: ACELINE


Aceline's project was beautifully designed and stood up on a plastic stand with lollipop sticks for extra support

4TH PLACE: JIA YI

Jia Yi made another brilliant book for her project




5TH PLACE: ETHELIND



Ethelind produced a quite beautiful set of tree drawings for a 5th place finish

6TH PLACE: MARCUS





7TH PLACE: CELESTE


Celeste produced a very neat and tidy-looking booklet with lovely pictures and information







8TH PLACE: WEI NIE

Circles In Everyday Life Project Winners

The Circles In Everyday Life project has been completed. We are thankful to all students and parents who supported their children throughout the two weeks of the project. Following will be a presentation of the winners in both the Children and Adult categories. We judged each project based on five criteria:

1. Creativity
2. Uniqueness
3. Effort
4. Aesthetics
5. Writing

WINNER, CHILDREN CATEGORY: YONG CHUAN

Yong Chuan had a clear vision of what he wanted to do from the moment the Circles In Everyday Life project began. A wonderfully creative piece of work depicting the Solar System was coupled with a great piece of writing showing how he personally loves space and the planets. His work scored high on all the marking criteria and we thought it was the stand-out project. Congratulations Yong Chuan!

Ethelind produced a fine, creative book on various circle shapes in life. Everything was done neatly with excellent written captions.

Isaac is a consistent performer at HLS and was rewarded for his unique and creative style along with very well written explanations and an essay in the booklet.
